Clerk James McCook 1795

  • Son of Malcolm McCook, shoemaker, Old Aberdeen, and Isabel Neil
  • 1779  – Alumnus, Marischal College.
  • Apprenticed to James Strachan.
  • 1785 – Married Jane Rhind at Aberdeen on 20th July,  Jane died 17th march 1792, aged 30 years.
  • 1795 –  Joint Assessor and Clerk to the Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen.  It was noted at the Minutes of the Convener Court on the 30th May that Thomas Duncan tendered his resignation as Joint Trades Clerk and Assessor on that date and that Doctor Arthur Dingwall Fordyce, Advocate, be appointed temporarily to the Office of Clerk for the sole purpose of making a new appointment of the Position of Clerk and Assessor to the Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen
  • At a subsequent meeting of the Convener Court, Alexander Shirrefs and James McCook were appointed Joint Trades Clerks and Assessors.
  • 1795 – Married Isabella Kynock at Aberdeen on 9th September.  Isabella died 18th March 1865,  aged 74.
  • 1800 – The Convener Court on 24th November, accepted the resignation of Messrs Alexander Shirrefs and James McCook as Joint Trades Clerks and Assessors and that Mr David Hutcheon, Advocate be appointed Clerk pro tempore until the appointment of new Clerks.
  • 1809 – Fiars Juror.
  • J.P. for Aberdeenshire.
  • 1831 – Died at sea, while on passage from London to Aberdeen, 9th October,  aged 70.
